Totalitarianism

Totalitarianism is a term that represents an ideology and political practice characterized by the total subordination of individuals to the interests of the state. In a totalitarian regime the state has absolute powers over all political, social, cultural, religious and economic life. Totalitarianism was particularly visible in the European dictatorships that emerged after the end of the First World War, constituting one of the main features of fascism, Nazism, Francoism, Salazarism and Soviet communism.
