The story

History Dictionary

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that emerged in Italy in the fifteenth century and which, by refusing medieval theocentric conceptions, places man at the center of all interests and his well-being becomes the main concern. The main philosophical characteristic of the Renaissance is thus the passage from Theocentrism that considers God as the center of the universe to the Anthropocentrism that places man as the center of the universe. Although revolutionary in its period, this conception of life was not completely new, since the ancient Greco-Roman civilization defended the freedom and dignity of man, seeking to create the "ideal man" from the civic, intellectual and physical point of view. It is because of this "rebirth" of classical culture that is called the Renaissance. This appreciation of man through the imitation of classical Greco-Roman models is called Humanism.
